English Friendship Ministry

If you can speak English and be a friend, you can make a gospel impact in Japan through ministry in a new church plant in Greater Tokyo. Be part of engaging and reaching the 99% that need Christ in urban Kawasaki!

The purpose of this ministry opportunity is to:
1) Point Japanese to Jesus in a practical and relational way that meets felt needs (English + friendship).
2) Serve a new local Japanese church and assist it in its gospel impact and growth.
3) Develop as a missional Christian by growing in multiple aspects of crosscultural life and service.
4) Acquire a vision for the many opportunities and needs of mission service in urban Japan.

LIVING ENVIRONMENT:
Musashi Kosugi (Kawasaki, Japan) is a new urban hub in SW Greater Tokyo with both dense population and large green spaces. It is quickly changing into the youngest demographic in Japan, with a growing number of new families moving in daily. This change presents a unique window of gospel opportunity. Most people in Kosugi have never personally met a Christian (99% are unreached and unengaged with the gospel), hungry for love and belonging, and open to western culture and the church. The worker(s), single or couple, will live in an apartment in the church neighborhood near shopping, community services, and train stations with easy access into the greater Tokyo metro area.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
The primary ministry context will be Kosugi Chapel (Denen Grace Church) a new church work in Kawasaki under the direction of Kevin and Kaori Laverman. You will begin ministry through the existing pool of contacts in and outside of the church, and develop many new relationships as a natural product of your relational teaching and friendship. On-field orientation is provided. Weekly debrief and prayer time with Kevin & Kaori Laverman is provided. The individual or couple will work under the oversight of ministry supervisors (Lavermans) and JVenture (WorldVenture in Japan) field leadership.
